Post Earthquake Polo

Posted: March 2, 2011 by Polo Camo in Uncategorized

What a week it’s been here in CHC.  Firstly thanks to everyone from all over the globe who’s been in touch to see how the people of Christchurch bike polo are.  I can now report that we are all still alive but disbursed around the county as temporary refugees  from the biggest natural disaster that Aotearoa has ever experienced.  Some of our houses are broken, yards are covered in liquefaction silts and most are still without the essential services we take for granted in our usual lives: power, water and sewer.

One of the questions most often asked is “How are the courts?”.  Given that the epicentre of the quake was less than 3km away from the courts I was certain they’d be badly damaged but they are not!  they have survived and seem 100% playable.  Our beloved courtside Polo Haus is however “stuffed” and showing some severe cracks in the blockwork walls, it has moved off its slab about 50mm in one corner too.  In short I suspect it’ll be red stickered… I hope I’m wrong, any expert opinions from the polo world welcomed.

Next session for bike polo in Christchurch?  not sure, suggestions welcome on this, ’till then – take care.

I can seriously over engineer you a new club house if you want but it’d probably end up too big and too expensive as I’ve not done owt that small before.
