BusBoy’s Nets

Over the last 6 months or so there’s been a huge swing toward netted goals for HCBP worldwide.  Don’t get me wrong, road cones will always have their place on a polo court but as the sport grows and tournaments become more standardised the need for a consistent goal width and height has become somewhat necessary.  Not only are we keeping up with the play in terms of global polo but may be solving some of our local “issues” with perma-goalies at the same time.  The netted goals are a little wider than we’ve had our cones set at – 1.8m between posts vs. 1.5m at base of cones.  It may not seem much but when a set of wheels is parked across it there’s now a little more goal and a little less “block”.  My guess is that this extra width will make goal scoring with a goalie “parked up” a little easier – perhaps encouraging goalies out of the nets and onto the court to defend / tackle…without having to add extra “local” rules to the game.

BusBoy has really thought these goals thru and has spent a load of time working on them (make sure you say thanks next time you see him aye), they’re the NAH (North American Hardcourt) “standard size” 1.8m x 0.8m opening and have spring-loaded collapsible uprights – for easy transportation and a little crash-proofing.  At the moment they sport some light grade bird netting but I suspect we’ll upgrade to something a bit more durable once we start shootin’ holes thru that stuff.
